History:

The cricket tournaments at PSU have been a regular event organized by the PSCC for the past 6 years and every time we have had a fun time at the fields. Last Spring 2010, all of us had an amazing time organizing and playing. Here is the link to some of the scores from Spring 2010 (http://pennstatecricket.wordpress.com/). Nittany Warriors were crowned the champions and they can now boast of their 3rd title in 4 attempts. There are other interesting teams who came very close to the title – Cup Thookers (the runners-up), Hyderabad Nawabs and Extreme (the semi-finalists).

And whats more? Its not just cricket during the tournament. There will be a lot of music, commentary and thamasha at the ground. We hope everyone of you can participate and make this a grander success than ever before.

Spread the word on… We need a new champion this time.

Cheers,

PSCC

Super Kings: Summer Cricket League (SCL) Champions

June 30, 2010

From Ashwin Ramesh (Treasurer, Penn State Cricket Club):
With the unavailability of many players in most teams and a few pulling out cause of injury/internships/personal needs, the league HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY CALLED OFF.

We decidedĀ  to call upon SUPER KINGS as the winners of the tournament based on the ranking/pointing system. There may be arguments based on this, but we have decided upon this as a FINAL call without dwelling on this any further.

We (on behalf of PSCC and all others lending in their support/advice without which this could not have been possibly carried this far) would like to thank everyone for conducting this league. There have been ups and downs throughout the tournament, but we have pulled up a lot of players and interest through this league.

As a short term plan for the coming weeks in summer, we intend to have CRICKET BALL practice sessions/matches every Wednesday at Orchard Fields possibly from next week. With everyone’s email ID in store, we will be sending out mails notifying about time to meet etc. If we have enough players to play a match with two teams, that will be done deciding teams then and there, else just practice.

A request to the captains or stand in captains to forward the same information to their respective team members.

Thank You
Ashwin

Median and Scorecards Updated

June 18, 2010

Hi Folks,

Solemn requests from “Reshma” has really driven me to update the statistics with utmost urgency. I have also updated the scorecard for Game 13: Super Kings vs. Lions. I have added a new statistical parameter just to bring out the performances of the bowlers in terms of those Extra runs (Wides, No-balls). Please note that a leg-bye or a bye will not count as an extra run against the bowler. The first statistic is the “Balls per Extra” and the next is the “Runs per Extra”.

Subash has the most number of Balls / Extra (24.00) which means he bowls only one extra every 4 overs (he has bowled only 4 overs so far!). So you guys enjoy the weekend and I am looking forward to another close finish tomorrow between the Super Kings and the Warriors.

Warriors survive in a thriller!

June 12, 2010

Game 12: Warriors vs. Lions

The Summer Cricket League (SCL) had its closest game of the season so far. With 16 runs needed off the last over, the drama on the field was sensational. A single was scored off the first ball. Next ball, Udit swung his bat and the ball was traveling to the deep mid-wicket fieldsman. Kalpesh took a hard-fought running catch. But in the end, as things transpired, a no-ball was called by the on-field umpires. The reason for the no-ball was that there were only 3 fielders inside the circle. Lions got a huge reprieve. But it was shortlived as in the next ball, Siddharth Advani who almost played through the twenty overs was out caught by a cool-as-a-cucumber catch by GGP at long on boundary. 13 needed off 4 balls and Udit got one in the gap between deep midwicket and square leg for a two. Next ball, Udit cleared his front leg and pulled it away to the midwicket boundary for a sensational sixer.

5 needed off 2 balls. Chaithanya and Udit had a long discussion in the pitch. Sridhar and Chandu had a long discussion. Things were getting really intense. Chandu bowled a yorker. Udit could get nothing out of it but a single.

4 runs to get. 1 ball remaining. Chaithanya, the new man in, was on strike. The Lions were optimistic about the fresh legs. The Warriors were thinking of how much pressure he was under. Another long discussion. Pressure was building up. Chandu ran in and as cool as he is, he bowled a perfect yorker on off stump. BOWLED HIM!!!

The Warriors all ran in to Chandu and had a huge huddle. It was an unbelievable game. The closest game so far in the Summer Cricket League. I shall upload the scores and statistics for this game on Monday. Apologies for the screw up with the scoring software. We lost the records of about 5 overs today. We must find an alternate source of electricity on the ground. If you guys can give any suggestions or help, please let me know. While, I am enjoying a perfect weekend – a win against the Super Kings yesterday, a win against the Lions today, a great game of 45-over cricket tomorrow and the big one, the AR Rahman concert the same evening – you guys take care. Have fun.

Scorecard:

Lions won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Warriors 148 for 5 in 20 overs – Charith 63* (66), Chandu 39 (31) won against Lions 145 for 8 in 20 overs – Siddharth Advani 75, Srinidhi Kestur 39

I will upload the detailed scorecard on Monday. Whoever has the original scorecard, send it to me through email. I will have to work on the statistics. Have a great weekend.
